Abhayangam: This oil massage is effective for obesity and is performed for 14 days for 45 minutes a day regularly.

Dhara: It is pouring of some herbal liquids, butter milk and medicated milk, etc. on the head region for 45 minutes a day for about 7-21 days. It is wonderful for skin diseases, mental tension, etc.

Kizhi: This is performed for 7-14 days for an hour regularly. This process makes use of herbal powders and herbal leaves combined with medicated warm oil. It is good for arthritis with swelling, osteo arthritis and spondilosis, etc.

Kativasthi: Warm medicated oil combined with herbal paste is applied on lower back region of the body. It is found effective to treat back pain and spinal disorders.

Ksheeradhoomam: It is a milk steam treatment that is found effective to treat speech disorders, facial paralysis and various types of nervous disorders taking place in the face.

Nasyam: It can help to cure skin diseases, mental disorders, headaches and other ailments. This medicated oil gets applied for about 7-14 days through the nose.

Lepanam: It is a medicated herbal paste that is applied over inflamed area.

Pizhichil: Lukewarm herbal oil is applied over the whole body and is left for around an hour or more and continued for about 7-14 days.
Jnavara Kizhi: It is an effective treatment to get relief from joint pain, high blood pressure, rheumastism, etc. This medication is rather a mixture of cooked rice, balamoola kashaya and cow’s milk. It is applied over the whole body and massaged with pressure.

Snhapanam: Medicated ghee needs to be consumed for about 8-12 days. This treatment is effective to treat psoriasis, arthritis and leukemia.

Shiro Vasthi: On the patient’s head is fitted a type of cap, where herbal oil gets poured for around 15 minutes to an hour and continued for 7-41 days.

Udvarthanam: This massage uses special power and is effective to relieve paralysis, obesity, rheumatism, etc. it is performed daily for 30-45 minutes for around 14-28 days.

Thalam: Special powder is mixed with medicated oil and applied on the head top region. It helps to treat ENT problems, migraine, insomnia, etc.

Urovasthi: Warm medicated oil is applied on the chest and kept for approximately 45 minutes. It is effective to treat respiratory problems and asthma.

Yoni prakshalanam: In this therapy, the genital organs are purified. Medicated oils are applied through vaginal route which is also good to treat gynecologic disorders.

Vasthi: This herbal oil is a medicated enema that is applied through rectum region. It is known to treat chronic constipation, paralysis, rheumatism and gastric complaints, etc.

Some precautions to be taken

  • People suffering from serious renal and liver problems are not to avail oil massage.
  • Blood pressure including other parameters needs to be normal while starting with any massage.
  • ‘Jnavara kizhi’ for whole body is not prescribed for those who are diabetic, renal, hepatic and obsessed.
  • ‘SiroDhara’ not recommended to those suffering from cerebral thrombosis.
  • Intensive steam bath allowed only under strict supervision and guidance of physician.
