A Kativasti is performed to treat chronic back problems and slip disc. The meaning of the ayurvedic term Kati is central portion of the body and Vasti means container.
Using black gram dough an enclosure is made on the lower back part and lukewarm herbal oil is poured into this and retained. This reduces the pain and strengthens the bone tissues. After half an hour this is removed and gently massaged with the same oil. The patient is then recommended to take rest for some time.
