Taking Care of Postnatal Diet the Ayurvedic Way: You have just brought in another life into this world, a baby. A lot has changed, your body is exhausted from the whole pregnancy and delivery and you’re also going to be feeding the baby for quite some time post-birth. You need a diet that is going to help you replenish the nutrients in your body and bring it back to status quo, as well as ensure that you’re getting enough nutrition because you’re going to be feeding two bodies now, you and your child. You need to ensure that the breast milk is nourishing enough for the baby. At this stage, it is most important to watch your diet carefully and get everything your body needs.

One thing that needs to be taken care of is digestion. The state of a mother’s digestion after delivery is very fragile. The organs are not in place, and it is just a lot of change. So in order to be able to fix that, it is important to consume foods that are easy to digest, keeping in mind that they’re also nutritious. When the food you eat is cooked properly and is at a good sot texture, it will be easier for the mother to get started and digest it. Including regulated amounts of ghee can really get the digestive juices flowing. Eating fresh greens and lentils will also help.

Consuming spices along with the food is also good for postnatal digestion. Coriander seeds soothe your digestive tract. Cumin seeds and ginger help you salivate and produce bile that ultimately helps in digesting your food. Some of the other spices that help are cardamom, basil, black pepper, fenugreek and dill.

When they say you are what you eat, they weren’t joking. You eat fresh to look fresh. New moms need to add a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables to intake all the fibre that they reed to produce breast milk for the baby and to rejuvenate. And even cooked food, if it is older than 6 hours, it automatically becomes hard to digest, which can be especially difficult for a post-delivery stomach of a mother.

Ayurvedic healing focuses on consuming food that are light in nature, or sattvik. The food you eat should in no way affect your vata (energy) in the wrong way. Therefore, it is recommended that the mother’s diet only include vegetarian food post-delivery.

Now you can avail home consultation in Kochi & Alappuzha for Ayurveda postnatal Care / Prasava Raksha / Post Delivery Care Call : +91 9072344343
