Mom’s Ayurvedic Postpartum Tips: You have to set clear expectations about the visitation look and the price of visit it cost them. If you can recognize visitors exacerbating the Vata dosha, their presence reduces stress and anxiety, not aggravating it. Working a visit around a chore or bringing a meal can assist you with other children for a few minutes of seeing the baby.

Main focus is on blossoming relationships with the Mother and the baby. You should not have any obligation to give up a single second of those baby snuggles. There comes attachment of an unbreakable bond between you and your child. This kind of attachment creates the feelings of love, safety and trust between a mother and her child. It would be the first time this little person to experience that type of interaction. This serves vital to foster the baby to form healthy attachments later in life.

This ain’t a time for enjoying a hospital pizza, if you are at the hospital or for an order takeout when you are at home. The digestive fire or Agni, would be low after your delivery, hence food must be easy to digest.

You can go for a Kitchari Soup or other comforting foods. Have consideration about the Ayurvedic food combinations for easy digestions. Cheese, beans, fruit, eggs, yoghurt and potatoes are the biggest culprits at this time.

Your hormones are lipid-based that are usually fats. Intake healthy fats for good recovery of your body. The good quality fats are vital for balancing the hormones. Vata people require fat to return to balance state. You have to provide your body with those healing fats as a protective measure.

The water should be warm or room temperature. This helps to vitiate Vata and some basic signs of imbalance like constipation. The body doesn’t require to work as hard using warm water.

There are some spices like cardamom, cumin, cinnamon, fennel and fenugreek that are good allies to restart your digestion along with herbal teas and incorporating these spices in dishes to promote lactation.

Apana is the subdoshas of Vata that allows the expulsion of the baby where the movement goes down. Your uterus, your organs and your body requires time to find their places. It is good to give them time. Usually, the gravity of the standing posture is too intense on the body for a least of a month to recover.

Ayurvedic Self-Care for Mother’s: Choosing the Ayurvedic way to heal after the postpartum period is helpful in a way that it is not restrictive and is easy to accommodate in your daily routine. It isn’t demanding and the methods prescribed by Ayurveda are pretty flexible, exactly what is needed for a new mother whose entire life is now unpredictable.

Post-birth, a mother loses all her balance and her whole body is changed, her mental state is now different and she now is responsible for two lives. Her own and her baby’s. Ayurveda helps to balance the vatas that are disturbed by the delivery. Here are some ways the mother can restore her energies by implementing some of these Ayurvedic recommendations.

Rest!

The mother must rest as much as she can along with her baby at least for the first six weeks after birth. Going out should be limited to doctor’s appointments and most necessary tasks. Family members can come home to help with the household chores, but outside contact should be as limited as possible.

Getting a Massage

Getting a massage with warm oil can help soothe the nerves and help to calm the unbalanced vatas. It helps in skin restoration and healing tissues as well. Mother’s can get a body massage, head massage or a foot massage or literally all of these.

Covering the Ears

When the ears are covered and kept warm, you ensure that the entryway for all unnecessary air is blocked and the body is protected. This helps to prevent any further imbalance and helps to regain composure and balance in the body.

Controlling the Environment

When the surroundings around the mother are created into those she can stay happy and comfortable in, she will automatically thrive and recover quickly. So surround the place with activities you like to do. You favourite books, play the music the mother loves etc.

Anything that helps the mother relieve stress is advisable. If the mother is happy, it will also have a positive effect on the baby.

Dietary Changes

Using a good amount of ghee in the food for the mother can help her restore her digestive fire and also help to resin lost energy. Herbs and spices like black pepper and ginger can help promote healthy lactation. Spicy food must be avoided in the first few weeks. The healthier the mother’s diet is, the healthier the breastmilk will be. Some other recipes a mother can try are turmeric infused milk and kheer (rice pudding).

Baby’s Diet: Ensuring that the child receives proper nutrition is of the highest significance, especially during its infancy. Considering how the baby is absolutely new in the world and is yet to develop a metabolism and digestive process. It can be complicated as to what to feed the infant when there are multiple restrictions.

Ideally, a newborn infant should be fed breastmilk while the mother must ensure she does everything to produce healthy breast milk. This should be done exclusively for the first 6 months after birth. Although, it is possible that sometimes breast milk is not accessible for multiple reasons. In those cases, the baby can be fed fresh goat or cow milk diluted with one-third parts of water. Some babies can’t digest the milk or just don’t want to take it, so smearing some sugar on the surface of take can help with digestion.

In six month’s time, the child’s metabolism is improved and is ready to digest semi-solid foods. This is when the child can be introduced to fruits (phalaprashana). Obviously, fruits in its original form would be hard for the baby to eat since it has no teeth. Therefore, it can be given in pulp or juice form. Cooking/mashing bananas and drizzle a little ghee on it is good for baby’s digestion in the initial stages. Using banana flour in porridge for the baby can act as a superfood.

At this stage, the baby can also be introduced to lentils and millets. Boiling mung daal into a soup and adding pink salt and crush cumin to that can prove beneficial. Raggi porridge is proved to be extremely nutritious and helps in developing the muscle and bones of the baby. It is important to remember that the infant is just learning to eat, so the mother should feed the baby gently and with patience. If the baby doesn’t get all the required nutrients, it can lead to malnutrition.

The baby’s stomach is very small, so when it is fed only liquids and thin foods, it is possible that the stomach may be full, but the necessary nutrients haven’t reached the body. So keeping in mind the right consistency is important. Slightly thick in consistency just means a decent amount of food containing a decent amount of nutrients for the baby. There is a trick to know whether the food is of the right consistency, just see if it stays on the spoon. If it does, you’re doing it right.

The initial food fed to a baby must be very soft, free of any hard particles, and bland. When the baby starts accepting these foods, you can work on taste and consistency. In the case of gas and bloating of the baby, boiled cumin water can be given regularly.

Caring for the infant with Ayurveda, first six months: When a newborn is brought out into this world out of a mother’s delivery, the entire world around him changes. From staying cocooned inside the mother’s womb for nine months, suddenly it is out into this large environment that may cause so many challenges to the bay who doesn’t even know how to combat them. So naturally, it is the mother’s duty to now create an obstacle-free environment for the baby to thrive in.

Ayurveda suggests many solutions to address this problem and helps in creating a vata-pacifying environment. Keeping the baby close to the body, and in slightly not-so-bright rooms will help the baby adjust to the light as it is just out of the dark womb. Making sure to not have visitors who come and bring in the dirt and germs with them is another way to protect the baby. So much human contact right after the baby is born can be tiresome for the baby.

There are several things to take care of when it comes to a newborn baby. This life is new and fragile. Right from Abhyanga, Udwarthana and Snana to Vastra Dharanam. Abhyanga refers to the process of massaging the baby lightly with oils infused with herbs to promote circulation and for string bone development. Udwarthana promotes the health of the skin. The treatment involves making a paste with herbs, powders and oils and is applied to the body of the baby. Finally, Snana is the process of giving the baby a bath with water that has been infused with healthy herbs. This is followed by Vastra Dharanam. This requires the baby to be dressed in clean and sterilized clothes all the time and should be changed enough times a day. The clothes should be soft in textures and free of any emboss or frill that may irritate the infant.

It is important to ensure your baby doesn’t face any sudden movements and is not awakened from the sleep during its slumber. Make sure the bay doesn’t cover its face in its sleep accidentally or it may have trouble breathing. Many parents think is fun to lift the child into the air but it may develop a fear of heights in the future. Treating the child gently with care and affection is important. It is possible that the baby is unintentionally stubborn, so instead of any form of abuse, try to use an understanding tone and deal with patience.

Healing postpartum depression with Ayurvedic remedies: Giving birth to a baby is quite a task. You can’t deny that it takes every single cell of energy in the mother’s body. That baby grew inside the mother’s womb for about nine months. A mother is bound to have fantasized about life with her child, and imagine how it is all going to turn out. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t. When it doesn’t, some mother ake it hard and face what’s called Postpartum depression. It is hard to be there for the baby, take care of it, breastfeed the baby when you’re mentally unsettled.

The mental state of the mind is so disturbed from anxiety, stress, being overwhelmed with change, how is the mother going to take care of the new life she gave birth to? It is important to identify this at an er;y stage and for the family members to keep checking in on the mother to give her the help she needs. The first step towards it would be to acknowledge the postpartum blues and get ready to get help and help yourself.

Getting fresh air and looking at the nature around you can give a mither intrinsic peace. The unsettled vatas respond well to being exposed to sunlight and open spaces and are automatically rejuvenated. When you know there’s something you are going through, find the hidden strength in you and draw your inner self out, in your heart, you will know you are well and ready for your baby. Pray for that strength if you have to, and let go of the expectations from a newborn baby.

Occasional fear, anxiety and loneliness are all aggravations of the vata dosha. It is important to calm them down to let go of those stressful issues. To do that, a good idea would be to shift to a vata-pacifying diet. Food that is cooked well, and is mushy in texture is great. Heating the food, or eating hot food instead of cold should be preferred, it gives a sort of calmness to the body. Always staying hydrated, eating milk products and other moist food can help as well drinking enough fluids will calm the heat and soothe the body.

Rubbing the feet with Bhringraj oils is known for promoting sereneness throughout the body, and following it by a bath. Taking a relaxing bath, and dipping the feet in warm water can prove extremely stress relieving and may help in calming the nerves.

Finally, if there are any extreme thoughts in the mind regarding hurting oneself or the baby, it is important to talk to the family first and then seek professional help to ensure the safety of both.

Treating your body with Ayurveda means ensuring to include the care for body, mind and spirit all at once and attaining a level of balance in your body. Treatment with Ayurveda means a successful road to wellness. Ayurveda approaches the root that causes problems, identifies it and fixes it all the way from start to completely heal the imbalance.

The Ayurvedic approach aims at balancing the vata (energies) in the body to help rejuvenate the body from inside. New mothers go through a lot of change and may constantly feel like they’re in a state of imbalance. Introducing them to Ayurveda will benefit them to regain their energy and health and bounce back to a state of wellness, to stay happy and to take care of the baby.

The best thing about Ayurveda is that it makes use of natural ingredients and home remedies to develop cures and treatments, most of the things that are dealt with are easy to do lifestyle changes. Hence Ayurveda during the postpartum period is affordable and easy to inculcate into the daily routine.

Post childbirth, a mother goes through a rollercoaster of emotions and a lot of change in her body, which is on top of bringing another life into this world, it might seem like a lot for a new mother. With Ayurveda, a mother can take preventative measures to cope with anxiety, stress and tiredness that comes from fresh motherhood. The Ayurveda treatments help in building energy and vitality of the mother, leading to much more joy and happiness that cannot be fully experienced otherwise.

Ayurvedic treatment in the postpartum period usually spans for about six weeks post-childbirth. That is the minimum time a mother needs to recover, to fix her body, health and the huge space that is now left in the uterus postbirth. The treatments include herbal massages, incorporation of exotic herbs in the blood and bath, and mindful diet that is nourishing and rich in rejuvenating nutrients.

Ayurveda also takes into account feeding the baby healthy breastfeed, fixing the posture of the mother so she can hold the baby for longer durations and emphasizes on keeping the mental health of the mother well in order to take on the responsibility of motherhood. With Ayurveda focusing on pacifying the environment and making it a healthy place to live, the life of the new baby and mother thrives in glee.

Taking Care of Postnatal Diet the Ayurvedic Way: You have just brought in another life into this world, a baby. A lot has changed, your body is exhausted from the whole pregnancy and delivery and you’re also going to be feeding the baby for quite some time post-birth. You need a diet that is going to help you replenish the nutrients in your body and bring it back to status quo, as well as ensure that you’re getting enough nutrition because you’re going to be feeding two bodies now, you and your child. You need to ensure that the breast milk is nourishing enough for the baby. At this stage, it is most important to watch your diet carefully and get everything your body needs.

One thing that needs to be taken care of is digestion. The state of a mother’s digestion after delivery is very fragile. The organs are not in place, and it is just a lot of change. So in order to be able to fix that, it is important to consume foods that are easy to digest, keeping in mind that they’re also nutritious. When the food you eat is cooked properly and is at a good sot texture, it will be easier for the mother to get started and digest it. Including regulated amounts of ghee can really get the digestive juices flowing. Eating fresh greens and lentils will also help.

Consuming spices along with the food is also good for postnatal digestion. Coriander seeds soothe your digestive tract. Cumin seeds and ginger help you salivate and produce bile that ultimately helps in digesting your food. Some of the other spices that help are cardamom, basil, black pepper, fenugreek and dill.

When they say you are what you eat, they weren’t joking. You eat fresh to look fresh. New moms need to add a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables to intake all the fibre that they reed to produce breast milk for the baby and to rejuvenate. And even cooked food, if it is older than 6 hours, it automatically becomes hard to digest, which can be especially difficult for a post-delivery stomach of a mother.

Ayurvedic healing focuses on consuming food that are light in nature, or sattvik. The food you eat should in no way affect your vata (energy) in the wrong way. Therefore, it is recommended that the mother’s diet only include vegetarian food post-delivery.

Ayurvedic Tips to Improve Lactation: After you give birth to your child, it is important that you breastfeed for at least six months after birth. This is a crucial period as the baby is in its most fragile stage and it is important that it gets all the nutrition to develop. Breast milk has all the antibodies your child needs to fight off all microbes that may cause diseases. All in all, it keeps the baby healthy. For you to do that successfully, it is important that you keep your breast milk good health and improve your lactation. Ayurveda suggests many ways to keep that in check.

To keep the milk secretion a healthy amount and of good quality, a nursing mother should watch her diet. Eating hot and spicy food, or food that has turned rancid could be problematic. For best results, the mother must keep her diet vegetarian and as bland as possible. Controlled amounts of ghee and oil should be taken with the food to improve the digestive nature of the mother.

Anything that goes into the body of the mother, would affect the breast milk that would ultimately go into the baby. Therefore a mother should watch what she’s exposing herself to. Unclean air and places that are polluted should be avoided. Needless to say, the intake of substances or drugs will also result in affecting breast milk, which can prove significantly harmful to the baby.

Sometimes, there may be excess milk secretion from the breast, an amount the baby does not need. In cases like this, the extra milk must be squeezed out or it might lead to the area being infected or a breast abscess. During these times, under no condition should the baby be fed milk from the breast. The milk should be thrown out.

On the other hand, there are cases, where mothers are unable to generate enough breastmilk for their baby. In cases like these, a special mixture can be taken to produce more milk in the breasts. Soaking 10 almonds overnight and blending it with milk along with a pinch of a few spices like ginger powder, date sugar and cardamom can help bot the quality and quantity of the breast milk. It can be taken twice in a day for best results. Other than that, Ayurveda recommends that you intake Shatavari and Ashwagandha in powder form to help the creation of breast milk.

The prenatal period is the time for proper care and attention to the mother’s health. There are a lot of things that a mother may think are unimportant, but in reality, are not. Through Ayurveda, you can clearly understand what little things to take care of, what activities need to be avoided and what needs to deliberately be done.

What a to-be Mother SHOULD do

It is important that the mother takes measures and does things that make her happy. Pick up a hobby, or listen to music, be around jovial people.

It has an impact on the child inside her womb. Wearing simple, airy and clean clothes will keep her comfortable and good hygiene will keep her from contracting diseases.

Consumption of natural supplements and fruits rich in fibre will provide the nutrition she needs. Taking a glass of mill along with it will help her give the child the calcium the body needs.

Upon reaching the fifth month of pregnancy, applying oil on the body and gently massing it will help soothe the mother. It can be followed by a warm bath to maximize relaxation.

What a to-be Mother SHOULD NOT do

There are more things that one does casually that needs to be taken care of. Stuff that might seem negligible but can have a large impact in the long run, if it isn’t paid attention to. Ayurveda prescribes the most natural care possible and suggests that instead of taking medications for problems that may arise, eradicate the problems altogether by preventing them from happening. This can be done by keeping several things in mind and taking precautions.

First off, maintaining a healthy routine is important, so sleeping late and making stressful schedules for the day must at any cost be avoided.

Mothers must avoid at all cost interactions with people and entertainment sources that can cause mental stress or sadness.

Any physical exertion must be avoided. Squatting can change the position of the baby in the womb to an undesirable one and also cause pain. Mothers should also avoid lifting objects that are heavy in weight or bend a certain way for a long time. Physical exertion also includes excessive sex. That should also be moderated.

The diet should be carefully watched. A to-be mother at no cost should overeat or fast. Any kind of extreme is bad. The key is moderation. Even taste-wise, extremely hot or spicy food should be avoided. Fermented, stale and dry foods are a no-no. Mothers should also steer clear of alcohol throughout their pregnancy.

Discomfort causing situations must be avoided. That includes travelling uneven terrains, wearing tight clothes and belts, and visiting places that might cause uneasiness.

Maternal care deals with caring for the mother’s health even before conception, during pregnancy and for both the mother and the child in the postpartum period. Ayurveda, with all its natural ways, ensures that the mother is receiving help throughout.

Ayurveda maternal care is a natural treatment, where the lifestyle and diet of the mother are looked after, long before the childbirth. This period is called Garbhini Paricharya, where the health of the mother decides how easy the pregnancy will be for her. Taking the right steps in this antenatal stage will ensure the prevention of cramps and pain of labour in the final stages. The therapists at Matt India, the best Ayurvedic hospital set in Alappuzha, near Kochi, ensure that any problem a mother might face during pregnancy can be mitigated. Those problems include constipation, varicose vein, headache, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, muscle cramps or a low backache. All of this can be avoided, simply by receiving an Ayurveda maternal care at the right time.

In the period of Garbhini Paricharya, the mother receives monthly diet checks, special concoctions are made for the mother. From the 6th month, a traditional oil massage is given for the health of the baby and the mother. In the case of any complaints, specific ailments are also treated.

Later, after the child is born, the mother undergoes a postnatal therapy. In Ayurveda, this is referred to as Suthika Paricharya. Postnatal care is focused on the first 6 weeks after childbirth. After delivery, the mother’s body has suffered significant change, and needs to be brought back to health in order to support herself and her child. The Ayurveda postnatal care pays special attention to the diet, lactation capabilities and comfort of the mother.

The Suthika Paricharya ensures that the mother’s diet is constituted to rehydrate the mother and provide sufficient nutrition to increase immunity. Special treatments including abdominal binding help with healing the internal organs and the posture of the mother. Receiving a calming Ayurvedic head massage prevents hair loss after childbirth. A mother also is given a herbal water bath to relax and eventually care for her child.
