Ambalappuzha Sri Krishna Temple a Tourist Attraction in Kerala

Ambalappuzha Sri Krishna Temple is a Hindu temple in the Alappuzha district of Kerala. It was built in the usual Kerala style. It is thought that the master of the area, Chembakassery Pooradam Thirunal-Devanarayanan Thampuran, built it between 15 and 17 AD. Tourists can see the temple’s idol, which resembles Parthasarthi holding a whip in one hand and a holy conch in the other. The Guruvayoor Sri Krishna Temple is connected to it.

People think that the Sri Krishna idol was moved from the Guruvayoor Temple to the Ambalappuzha Temple for safety in 1789, when Tipu Sultan attacked. Payasam, a sweet dessert made of rice and milk, is served here. Devotees love it because it is so delicious. It is said that Guruvayoorappan comes to this temple every day to eat Palpayasa Nedyam, so there is an interesting story about how this pudding is made.

Legend

People think that Lord Krishna once showed up as a sage in front of the king, who was in charge at the time, and challenged him to a game of chess. Since King liked to play chess, he took up God’s dare. Sage asked the king to give him a grain of rice if he won the game, and for every square he won, the king agreed. The king was happy to agree, and in the end, Lord Krishna won the game. The king was happy to give the grain of rice, but he soon realised why Lord Krishna had asked him to double the grain of rice on each square. When he doubled the grain on the 20th square, he realised that his kingdom was out of rice.

After seeing all of this, Lord Krishna told the king that he could pay him part of his debt and that he would keep serving paal payasam until his debt was paid off. The king agreed to this plan.
